Preparing your horse for transport

Is there anything that I can do to prepare my horse for transport?

To ensure a smooth journey, please make sure your horse has access to fresh water and start feeding lucerne hay a few days before travel.

Do I need to complete a tick spray before my horse travels?

All horses moving from recognised QLD tick areas are required to be tick free if crossing into a tick free area. The person at the pick up in a tick area is responsible for ensuring horses are free of ticks prior to travel in accordance with Qld Biosecurity Manual. Horses will be refused transport if ticks are evident on inspection at pick up.

Do I need insurance for my horse?

Horses are wild animals that can be unpredictable and may not always respond well to travel. Ro’s Horse Transport does not arrange insurance for individual horses, and while all care is taken, Ro’s are not responsible for injury, loss, or death of horses. The owners of the horses are responsible for arranging their own insurance.

Does my horse need to be halter broken before transporting?

Yes, all horses must be halter broken for travel.

Can I send additional gear with my horse?

We have very limited storage space for gear to go with your horse, due to weight and room  restrictions. Please check with the driver if there is space. Generally, any horse gear is limited to one rug. All gear is to be put in the truck tool box whilst travelling. Please ensure the rug is wrapped, tied and clearly labelled with the destination and contact details.

Ro’s Horse Transport do not accept responsibility for any loss of gear sent with your horse, so if it’s precious we suggest Australia Post.  Please send race cards and/or breeding papers though the mail.

Client is advised of dates for pickup and delivery at time of accepting the quoted. It is up to the client to notify both ends of dates before travel.  The contact for pick up and delivery will be notified the day prior with an approximate time to expect the truck.  The driver also contacts clients when they are 30 minutes to an hour way.
